    Laser Eye Surgery

Eye Surgery is the use of surgery to perform corrections on the eyes including vision correction. Two of the most popular methods are PRK and LASIK, which are laser eye surgery. Laser Eye Surgery is usually used to correct vision disorders such as Myopia commonly known as nearsightedness or Hyeropia, commonly known as farsightedness. Some types of eye surgeries include laser thermal keratoplasty, laser thermal keratoplasty, or intrastromal corneal ring segments, and other lens related surgery.

    Types of Common Vision Disorders

    Glaucoma

Glaucoma is an eye disease that is most commonly known leading to loss of vision or blindness and happens because of damaged optic nerves in the eye mostly linked with increased pressure of the fluid of the eyes. There are two main types of glaucoma, “open angle”, which is sudden and often painful and “closed angle”, which is slow progressing but may not be noticeable until the disease can spread at a vital stage.

    Myopia

Nearsightedness or Myopia is one of the most common eye problems. It is when objects at close distance can be seen clearly but the further away objects are, the more blurred they get. Usually glasses or prescribed corrective lenses are the common solution for everyday wear eye correction for this problem. Refractive surgeries are now becoming more common.

    Hyeropia

Farsightedness or Hyeropia is the opposite of nearsightedness where objects in the distance may appear to be clear while objects that are close by tend to be fuzzy or blurred. Usually glasses or prescribed corrective lenses are the common solutions for everyday wear eye correction for this problem. It is sometimes correctable with refractive surgery procedures.

    Kinds of Laser Eye Surgery

There are many kinds of Laser Eye Surgery and the two most common laser eye surgery procedures are LASIK and PRK. Other laser eye surgery also includes RK refractive Surgery (radial keratotomy), Corneal Onlays/Inlays or LASEK. Under the category of LASIK, there are also many types that are slight variations of one another, each with their own pros and cons.

    What is LASIK?

LASIK in general is acronym for laser in situ keratomileusis, which is the use of microkeratome metal blade to cut the cornea flap after and afterwards, using an excimer laser to reshape the cornea of the eyes and is usually used for the treatment of correcting nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism by the use of cold light beam. Both eyes are usually done at the same time to avoid imbalance of correction for one of the eyes. There are also many types of LASIK including Intralase Femtosecond LASIK, Wavefront LASIK, and PresbyLASIK.

    Vitreo-Retinal Surgery

Vitreo-Retinal Surgery is a type of eye surgery that is used to treat or prevent cataracts and other diseases that involves the vitreous humour and retina. Disorders treated by Vitreo-Retinal Surgery include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, ocular tumor, inflammatory ocular conditions, hereditary retinal diseases, and other highly complex disorder. It can be performed with local or general anesthesia.

    Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery is when the lenses of the eyes are removed because it has become impaired do to the development of opacity. In this surgery, after the cataracts are removed, an artificial intraocular lens implant is placed into the eyes.

    Refractive Surgery

Refractive surgery includes any type of eye surgery that helps a person to improve sight-related conditions such as myopia or hyperopia and help to decrease dependency on glasses or contact lenses.
