    What is Pain Medicine?

    Pain Medicine or Pain Management is a specialty focuses on the management of treating those suffering from pain such as trauma or pathology. Mild pain can be treated with tame drugs such as paracetamol or ibuprofen while for more severe pain, the use of morphine, oxycodone, or hydromorphone may be required.

    Pain medicine can range from prescription of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) such as Paracetamol for mild pain to morphine or oxycodone to manage intense pain and the use of physical approach such as psychiatry and rehabilitation or psychological approaches. Some risk and side effects associated with the use of drugs in managing pain can include seizure, drug abuse, drug addiction, nausea, or allergies.

     

    Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS)

    Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs are drugs that are a part of analgesic or painkillers that decreases prostaglandin production, which in turn reduces pain and inflammation. It is relatively safe in comparison to other drugs

    Antidepressants or other analgesic agents can be used in the management of pain depending on the severity and intensity of a patient’s case. Examples of other popular drugs used in pain management include gabapentin, orphenadrine, cyclobenzaprine, or trazadone.
