The prostate is a small gland that only men have. It is normally not larger than a walnut and located underneath the bladder and in front of the rectum. Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancer types for men over the age of 50. More than 70% of men diagnosed with prostate cancer are over the age of 65.

However, since it usually is very slow growing and symptom free and many men with the condition die of other causes not usually related to the prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is more common amongst men living in the United States and Northern Europe, and men living in South and Central America. Men in Africa and Asia all have much lower chances of developing prostate cancer. The most common treatments for prostate cancer include surgery, radiation therapy, hormonal therapy, and proton therapy.
