    Weight loss/Obesity/Gastric Surgery

weight loss surgery through lap band or gastric surgeryObesity is classified as a disease and it is a condition in which one has severely too much excess body fat than is needed, so much so that it may hinder normal activities that one should be able to do. Although alternative non-surgical weight loss procedures and programs may be effective for some people trying to fight with obesity, others may opt forweight loss surgery to deal with the condition. Bariatric surgery or weight loss surgery is permanent and a serious surgical procedure that decreases the size of the stomach, which in turn limits how much you can eat and helps to lose weight. Of the many types of weight loss surgery, gastric bypass surgery, lap-band surgery, and gastric sleeve procedure are the three most common and widely performed treatments.

    Gastric Bypass Surgery

The stapling of the upper part of the stomach together to pinch the stomach so that it becomes a smaller version of the stomach and rerouting the small intestine to connect to it resulting in the limitation of the amount of food you can eat.

    Lap-band Surgery

In lap-band surgery, a silicone rubber band is put around the upper part of the stomach that creates a smaller pouch from which the food slowly flows from the smaller pouch to the lower part of the stomach so you feel full quickly when you eat.

    Gastric Sleeve Procedure

Gastric Sleeve Surgery uses laparoscopic tool that is inserted through a small slit cut in a keyhole approach and is used to give the physician a visual of the abdomen during the procedure.

Mini Gastric Bypass (Loop Gastric Bypass)

Mini Gastric Bypass is a gastric bypass procedure, which uses a loop of small bowl instead of the Y-shape and is used sometimes as an alternative to normal gastric bypass because of its simplicity. There is a risk though of the bile and pancreatic enzymes in the bowel going into the esophagus and causing inflammation or ulceration.

    Vertical banded Gastroplasty (VBG)

Vertical banded Gastroplasty is a weight loss surgery that uses surgical staples to staple the stomach so that it can be divided into two portions thus limiting the amount of food the stomach can eat and the patient for this procedure can feel full faster.

    Biliopancreatic Diversion (BPD)

Biliopancreatic Diversion is a procedure where a large portion of the stomach is removed to help restrict the amount of food intake and limit the production of stomach acid. The small portion of the stomach that is left is then connected to the final segment of the small intestine. This type of procedure carries a high risk of nutritional deficiency.
