Vitalize your skin through Lumenis One and 360 Degree Cryo Therapy – results, benefits and potential side effects

lumenis One Skin TreatmentIn order to obtain optimal results for skin rejuvenation, most practitioners today advocate a combination of treatments working on different parts of the skin layers (the dermis and the epidermis). This targeted approach proves effective on skin conditions such as wrinkles, pigmentation, sagging skin and large pores.

Having spent too many careless hours in the sun, I have over the years developed typical age signs, such as fine lines, and uneven pigmentation from UV spots and sunspots. Today, there is a range of possible treatments to defend and remove pigmentation. One of the most effective is IPL. To battle my aging skin, I turn to Genesis Skin Klinik in Bangkok and one of the experts on facial rejuvenation; Dr. Rujirat Vongthongsri. Through her gentle care, I hope to boost my skin and facial complexion.

Combine your skin treatments for optimal results

After Dr. Rujirat Vongtongsri has examined my face and its condition through the Visia Skin Analysis Machine, we both have a clear understanding of the current state of my skin (and the to me appalling number of UV Spots), my brown spots (visible to the naked eye), rosacea (red areas) and wrinkles that I hope to eliminate. In order to treat the various conditions, Dr. Rujirat recommends a combination of Lumenis One IPL treatment and vitamin infusion through Cryo Therapy, which I eagerly try.

Photo rejuvenation with Lumenis One IPL skin treatment

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-invasive laser-like treatment that can correct a range of benign skin conditions, such as sun damaged skin, freckles, uneven skin tone, acne, rosacea, birth marks and age spots. Lumenis One is considered one of the safest, most effective and most comfortable IPL treatments on the market. It can also be used to minimize pore size, broken blood vessels, and to remove hair. In my case, Dr. Rujirat mainly uses Lumenis One to minimize the number of UV and brown spots in my face.

Benefits/advantages of Lumenis One IPL

  • Through its unique Optimal Pulsed Technology, Lumenis One is of the safest IPL treatments on the market;
  • Completely non-invasive;
  • Can be tailored to the patient’s individual condition and skin type to provide outstanding results and satisfaction through photo-rejuvenation;
  • The discomfort experienced with some lasers is close to minimal with Lumenis One IPL;
  • Presents no downtime, where you can go straight back to work or your daily life without anyone noticing that you’ve had any treatment done;
  • A versatile treatment used on a wide range of conditions ranging from hair removal to damaged skin to minimizing pore size

Lumenis One IPL machine

One of Genesis Klinik's therapists with the Lumenis One IPL machine.

How is Lumenis One performed?

Lumenis IPL treatment is gentle, quick and non-invasive. The therapist starts by thoroughly cleansing my face, before carefully covering my eyebrows so for them to stay unaffected by the strong light. The eyes are also covered to stay out of the strong light. Once the preparation is completed, Dr. Rujirat carefully places the applicator on my face and gently releases the intense pulsed light, which is changed to heat energy once entered into the skin. This results in photothermolysis of the target chromophores. Through reaching into the deeper layers of the skin, it will also boost collagen production. The process usually takes between 20-30 minutes.

Does Lumenis One IPL hurt?

Lumenis One is not a hurtful procedure. You will feel a slight tingling sensation when the light is released into the layers of the skin. The feeling can be resembled to a slight buzz into the deeper tissue, and when you smell the scent of burned hair, it is actually the prevalent fine facial hair that is affected by the strong light. Dr. Rujirat is exceptionally careful, and asks me at least ten times during the short procedure if it hurts, which I decline every time. I also don’t feel any pain or discomfort after the procedure. I walked out of Genesis Skin Klinik feeling completely refreshed, satisfied, and happily surprised about the lack of any potential ache.

Are there any side effects to Lumenis One IPL?

Although close to non-existent, the few side effects that you might experience are redness or swelling after the IPL treatment. Very rarely, there may also be some bruising or blistering. The face might feel tight or warm just after the treatment, which should settle within the first hours. After having the Lumenis One IPL done by Dr. Rujirat at Genesis Klinik, I did not feel any discomfort, redness or swelling at all and walked straight back to the office without anyone noticing any difference to my face, apart from a colleague pointing out that my face looked radiant. Whether the immediate results came from Lumenis One or 360 Degree Cryo Therapy, I can’t tell, but no matter what it helped.

What kind of results can I expect from Lumenis One IPL?

After Lumenis One, you will feel rejuvenated while having a more even skin tone and a healthier radiance. The exact results will vary depending on the condition of your skin and the severity of your condition, but already from one session you will see an apparent result. Within a few days, several of the underlying sun spots came up to the surface of the skin making my skin tone more uneven than before. However Dr. Rujirat explained to me that this is a natural process occurring when the skin rejuvenates itself from inside and when the before hidden spots are removed from the skin layers, and scrapes off.  Once removed, my face has a completely new, healthy glow to it.

How many sessions of Lumenis One IPL is needed for results?

After only one treatment, you will notice an improvement on your skin tone. For optimal results, you may need between 4-6 treatment sessions depending on your skin’s condition. To allow my skin to recuperate between each IPL treatment, Dr. Rujirat recommends me to come back in one month for the second session.

Vitamin Infusion through 360 Degree Cryo Therapy to re-energize your skin

To boost my skin even further, Dr. Rujirat also suggests a Vitamin Infusion in the form of 360 Degree Cryo Therapy. This effective treatment is used for different skin conditions, such as skin pigmentation, melasma, wrinkles, scaring, and enhancing the skin’s natural glow. Through creating temporary micropores in the skin, this transdermal technology can transport drugs and compounds boosting anti-aging. 360 Degree Cryo therapy breaks through the resistant skin layers and transports the highly concentrated potent active ingredients (such as minerals, vitamins, enzymes, plant extracts and amino acids) into the connective tissue, stimulating collagen and elastin growth. Once the cells have been introduced to the ingredients, they will be sealed by the cooling cryo technique.

The process of 360 Degree Cryo Therapy

  1. Activa System – opens up the pores, unlocks the cells, which are applied with Vitamin A.
  2. Hydro-electrophoresis System – conducts the vitamins to the first layer of the skin
  3. Electroporation System – gradually conducts Vitamin C to the deeper layers of the skin
  4. Cryo-phoresis – the icy cool waves lock all the vitamins in the cells while closing the pores

Results from 360 Degree Cryo Therapy

The 360 Degree Cryo Therapy helps with anti-aging and the skin’s natural exfoliation. After only one treatment, your skin will look more radiant, smooth, and plump. Straight after I had the treatment done at Genesis Skin Klinik, my skin looked firmer and had a nice, healthy glow to it.

Instant and long-term skin improvements

When walking out of the treatment room after the treatments, I am initially afraid of my face being red and feeling burnt. However, one look in the mirror eases my worries. By combining the IPL treatment with a vitamin infusing, my face looks better straight away. The warm sensation that some patients can experience after a laser treatment is not apparent at all due to Lumenis One’s gentleness on the skin.

The instant results are apparent, and Dr. Rujirat promises me that my skin will continue to improve during the coming months, once time has allowed the collagen to build up and the sunspots to withdraw. In comparison to the various skin treatments I have ventured into before (such as fractional radiofrequency and ultrasound treatment) Lumenis One is by far the most mild and pleasant procedure. Would I go back to do the treatments again? Most definitely! In fact, I’m already looking forward to my next session of Lumenis One and the great improvements on my skin and my overall complexion and happiness.

The importance of scent and smell in hospitals, clinics, spas and other health facilities – Interview about scent marketing with Mr. Tony Wright at Air Aroma

scent branding air aroma We’ve all experienced how a certain smell can take you back in time to a specific moment or place in your past, maybe the smell of your grandmother’s freshly baked cinnamon rolls, or the smell of newly cut grass on a warm summer day? As one of the five senses, smell differs from the others in its possibility to unleash a flood of memories that are so intense and striking that they almost seem real.  Smell is immediate and emotional, making it the perfect tool for how humans perceive their environment. With new findings, more companies are tapping into the scent industry, giving their customers a sensorial experience out of the ordinary.

One of the companies realizing the potential of how we perceive scents is Air Aroma, one of the pioneers of the scenting industry. For over 12 years, Air Aroma has helped companies implement scent as part of their overall branding strategy. With hotels, stores, casinos and offices being some of Air Aroma’s most common client groups, the company is now seeing an increased interest in scent marketing from medical and healthcare facilities such as hospitals and clinics in their quest for image branding.

To find out more about scent branding and scenting, I meet Mr. Tony Wright, the distributer of Air Aroma in Thailand, who shares his knowledge about how smells and scents can be beneficial for healthcare environments.

Tell me about Air Aroma, your scenting products and services.

Air aroma was funded by John van Roemburg, originally an engineer from Holland who settled in Australia. Today, the company is the international leader in providing scent marketing solutions, fragrances and technologies. Air Aroma specializes in the diffusion of custom aroma and essential oil blends for different kind of environments. Air aroma produces scents in form of essential oils and aroma oils. We also provide completely customized signature scents for clients, along with Arotec, which is an odor removal solution removing for instance tobacco smoke or sweat odor.

Aromatherapy is not a novelty. It has been around since the Egyptians and it is proven that a public space scented with a pleasant fragrance will feel more welcoming and friendly.

Today, Japan is Air Aroma’s biggest single market, where for instance twelve hospitals have employed scenting to relieve stress on the patients. The idea of aromas is to create a more welcoming and less stressful environment, making it excellent for hospitals, clinics, and clinical environments. For instance, some hospitals are using scenting in certain spaces, such as cat-scans, where the patient is in a confided and somewhat uncomfortable space. Naturally, all our fragrances are hypoallergenic to make sure that patients won’t react to them in any way.

aroma essential oil diffuser for scent marketing and scentingHow are the Air Aroma products and the scenting technology used at the client facility?

Apart from the thousands of Air aroma fragrances and scents, we also offer various diffusers or scent machines utilizing cold-air technology to disperse the oil into micro drops, increasing the total exposed surface of oil ten thousand fold. This increases the capacity of the aroma immensely and spread itself easily through the air instead of condensing close to the diffuser. Due to the effectiveness of the diffusers, the amount of oil needed is minimal. For instance, to scent a big lobby of an international hotel, you will not need more than a liter of oil per month. The diffusers can be placed into the air conditioning equipment, and is therefore invisible for guests and staff.

Our oils are produced in Europe, and the equipment is designed in Australia and China.

What is Scent Branding, Scenting or Scent Marketing?

Scent branding, also called sensory branding or scent marketing, is an effective and powerful tool for businesses to reach customers on an emotional level by evoking senses based on the smell. Scent marketing is based on the idea that humans are extremely receptive to smell, evoking memories immediately. This works like an all-factory logo, where clients have a pleasant experience from the smell, remember it, and inevitably that smell will become connected to the brand or business. When the clients experience the fragrance in another environment, they will inevitably come to think of the business.

air aroma essential oilsAir Aroma doesn’t only offer scents, but also an Odor Removal Solution named Arotec, used for instance for tobacco smoke, damp carpets, cooking smells etc. How does Arotec function?

Arotec functions on a molecule level. It doesn’t cover up any odors, which many might think, but it actually breaks the molecules down and neutralizes the air. When Arotech reacts with the molecules, our nose can’t recognize them as bad smell. The molecules are still there, but changed to the point where our noses simply can’t recognize them as odor. This makes Arotech perfect for fitness centers, casinos, nightclubs and hotels.

The Spa and Wellness industry understood the importance of scents for the patient experience a long time ago. But the medical world is just now turning into scenting. Why do you believe it’s taken so long for the medical industry to tap into scenting?

Due to the nature of the industry, the medical world has always been a bit slower on changing and adapting to new possibilities. The entire industry is, rightfully, based on evidence-based trials and peer-reviewed tests before acceptance. However, a lot of more medical facilities are realizing the potential of creating a welcoming, stress-free environment for their patients.

Are there any health benefits involved with Scenting/Scent Branding?

Yes, there are actually huge health benefits with scenting using essential oils. There is actually overwhelming evidence that essential oils kill bacteria. So when diffusing essential oils into “contaminated” hospital or clinic air, the antiseptic action of the essential oils can actually “clean” the air. Also, essential oils remove dust particles out of the air, and can when diffused become a great air filtration system. This function is only apparent for essential oils. Aroma oils do not function the same way.

Why would a hospital need Scent Marketing/Scent Branding?

Scent marketing and branding are excellent tools for branding your “product”, to make sure that patients associate the smell with something positive. But scenting through essential oils is also optimal for killing air-born bacteria. The third major benefit is the stress-reducing aspect of specific scents. For instance, our new product, Arobalance, is a unique scientifically proven stress-relieving product developed with biomedical scientists at the University of Queensland. Arobalance contains natural extracts from green plants, proven to produce a calm and serene atmosphere during periods of stress, which is of course perfect for clinical spaces such as hospitals. Through reducing the stress in the sympathetic nerve terminal activity, you can relieve or prevent the effects of chronic exposure to stress. When the patient walks in to a hospital with a pleasant, relaxing aroma, the patient will also feel more at ease.

Essential Oils in Hospitals and Nursing Homes

One of the best parts of essential oils is that viruses and bacteria can’t mutate or become resistant to the essential oils, unlike man-made antibiotics. Diffusing essential oil into the air will bring negative ions back into the air. Negative ions are reduced in areas with a great number or people or pollution, leading to a healthier environment and workspace.

Which hospitals and medical facilities are using Scent Marketing through Air Aroma today?

There are quite a large number of hospitals using scent marketing or scenting in various areas and spaces within their facilities. Scent branding is very popular in Japan, where twelve hospitals are currently using fragrances both for health and relaxation reasons. In some cases, the fragrance is diffused through the air conditioning system, covering large areas of the medical facilities. But it can also be used on a more targeted level. For instance, hospitals in Florida and New York have infused scents into MRI machines to aid relaxation.  The Ohio State University Medical Center, also in the US, offers an aromatherapy option in its birthing suites, where the mothers-to-be can choose between six different scents. With more hospitals and clinics realizing the health benefits through preventing airborne illnesses, as well as their possibility for branding and creating a homey, comfortable, and stress-free environment, we will definitely see an increase in scenting at medical facilities in the future.

Air aroma signature scent marketing scenting As a medical or health institution; can I design my own signature scent as well, and if so, how long time does it take to get our own signature fragrance?

Yes of course. We have helped hospitals, hotels and businesses around the world in designing their own signature scent. Choosing a fragrance is a delicate issue, where we work closely together with the company in order to develop a unique fragrance suited for the work environment and surroundings, the clientele, and the workforce. Different fragrances are popular in different parts of the world. For instance, Westerners tend to prefer woody aromas reminiscent of forests and outdoor living, while Asians tend to prefer more floral aromas.

How to choose the right signature fragrance for scent branding

When choosing a signature scent, we would first try to get as much information from the institution about the image the company is trying to project, what they want to say about themselves, the demographics of their clients (preferences will vary depending on age, sex, and race). We would then come back with four to six different aromas where a selection committee from the hospital or clinic would choose three. From these three, we expect the client to tell us what is wrong with them. After making adjustments we would come back with two variations from which the client would then choose the final fragrance.

At last, why should any health institution use Air Aroma’s scenting products?

As mentioned to you earlier, the main reason would be the apparent health reasons. The stress-free and healthy environment created by essential oils does not only make the patients feel better, but also improves their well-being and overall health.

Analyze your skin and rejuvenate your looks through Genesís Skin Klinik in Bangkok

Genesis Skin Klinik Bangkok Dr. Rujirat Vongthongsri

Dr. Rujirat Vongthongsri, founder of Genesis Skin Klinik in Bangkok, Thailand.

When founding Genesis Skin Klinik one year ago, Dr. Rujirat Vongthongsri was far from a rookie in the medical and aesthetics field. With 15 years of experience within dermatology and as a practicing doctor, Dr. Vongthongsri carried out her dream of establishing her own skin clinic. Through a lot of hard work, and finding the perfect location at Bangkok’s landmark building – the Dusit Thani Building – her vision came through.

When sitting down with her and Genesis’ marketing manager, Olivia Knecht, at the 350 m2 impressive clinic facing Bangkok’s Lumpini Park, I take the opportunity to find out more about Genesis Skin Klinik, their famous skin treatments, and how they make sure that each patient achieves the results of their dreams.

Dr. Rujirat Vongthongsri, Please tell me a little about yourself and your practice

After finishing my medicine studies in Bangkok, I traveled to Vienna in Austria to study dermatology. After two years in Austria and training in the US, I came back to Bangkok where I have worked at BNH Hospital and Bumrungrad hospital ever since. Today, I share my time between the two hospitals and Genesis Skin Klinik.

Tell me about Genesis Skin Klinik and your services

Genesis Skin Klinik was established in September 2010 in the Dusit Thani Building in central Bangkok. I carefully chose this location due to the proximity to the Dusit Thani Hotel. A lot of our patients come from overseas, and while here for holiday they would like to enhance their looks with some aesthetic treatments. For our overseas clients, we provide a wide range of customized packages. All our treatments are personalized treatments depending on the client’s need and desires.

The lobby at Genesis Skin Klinik Bangkok, Thailand

The lobby at Genesis Skin Klinik Bangkok, Thailand.

In all, Genesis Skin Klinik has 6 treatment rooms including a full operation room and one examination room. Genesis Skin Klinik is one of few clinics in Bangkok that also performs skin surgeries, however at the clinic we only perform treatments using local anaesthesia. If general or full anaesthesia is needed, the procedure will be carried out at one of our partnering hospitals, with our staff and medical team.

Genesis Skin Klinik employs three doctors, all specializing in dermatology and aesthetic treatments, such as the Body Design System and Acculift or AccuShape. But Genesis Skin Klinik is far from only a cosmetic and aesthetic center. Genesis is proud of being on the international hospital standard for their pathology lab, where patients come to have their skin examined and evaluated for potential skin diseases such as skin cancer. When needed, the doctor performs a skin biopsy, which is sent for an evaluation followed by the recommended treatment. Currently, about 20% of our patients come for medical procedures, and 80% for cosmetic and aesthetic treatments.

Does Genesis Skin Klinik have a lot of international clients?

Yes we do! Many of our foreign patients come from the US, Europe and Australia. Although many are so called fly-ins, we are also very popular with the expatriates living in Bangkok, which usually come on a regular basis for rejuvenating treatments. Other popular countries of origin are Hong Kong, Singapore, India and Malaysia. Most of our clients hear about us through recommendations from their friends and acquaintances, while other finds us through magazines and various online sources, such as Facebook and YouTube.

Genesis Skin Klinik is multilingual, and our staff speak English, German, French, Thai, and Japanese. This is a great advantage for clients who are not too confident with English.

Genesis Skin Klinik offers a wide range of skin treatments and services, such as Fractional CO2 Laser, Oxygen treatments, Cellulite treatments and Laser Treatments. Which are your most popular procedures?

Our most popular procedures would be our Fractional CO2 Laser, hair removal, and Oxygen H2O+ treatment. Especially the Oxygen treatment is very popular, and many of our clients come each month to have it done.

Oxygen H2O+ Treatment at Genesis Skin Klinik in Bangkok, Thailand.

One of the professional therapists at Genesis Skin Klinik with the Oxygen H2O+ machine.

What is the Oxygen H2O+ Treatment?

Oxygen H2O+ is a skin treatment that works on five different levels to restore your skin. It cleanses, exfoliates, rejuvenates, hydrates and oxygenate simultaneously. By using oxygen, water and vitamins at supersonic speed, the microdroplets will exfoliate, restore and deeply nourish your skin with essential elements. Oxygen H2O+ is a more efficient way of cleaning your skin, and something that we recommend you to do on a continuous basis, even once a week. A lot of our regular customers will come just before they are going to party to obtain that extra glowy, plump and rejuvenated skin. The treatment only takes 30 minutes, and there is absolutely no downtime from this light treatment.

    Who should try Oxygen H2O+?

Anyone! But individuals with excessive acne and oily skin can really benefit from it, along with people with acne scars, large pores, wrinkles, sun damaged skin, and melasma. It has some great rejuvenating and hydrating benefits.

    Does Oxygen H2O+ hurt?

In order to convey the feeling of Oxygen H2O+ to our readers, Dr, Vongthongsri kindly lets my try the procedure. I am directed in to one of the elegant treatment rooms, where a therapist helps me up on a bed, wraps a warm towel around me and carefully cleanses my skin before beginning the procedure. During this deep skin cleansing, the therapist gently works her way through my face spraying it with 100% oxygen along with a saline solution. Although the oxygen being a bit cold, the treatment itself is very comfortable. Once finished, I find my skin looking fresher and healthier than in a long time.

Before any skin treatment, you make an analysis of the patient’s skin. Why is this important?

We use a specific machine for the skin analysis, called Visia Skin Analysis. We base all our treatments on the results from this analysis.

Visia Skin Analysis and Skin Complexion Machine

The therapist with the Visia Skin Analysis Machine.

What is Visia Skin Analysis? And what are the benefits of Visia Skin Analysis?

Visia Skin Analysis is a multi-spectral imaging and analysis machine that can provide the patient and the doctor with comprehensive data and analysis about the skin’s condition before the patient starts the actual rejuvenating skin procedure. The machine uses ultraviolet and polarized light to look deep into the skin and show you the conditions of the skin that are not visible to the naked eye.

How is Visia Skin Analysis Performed?

The patient is asked to put its head into a certain position in the machine, where two photos are taken. The first photo is a highly magnified view of the visible skin, the epidermis, showing wrinkles, visible fine lines, pores, brown spots, and the unevenness of any skin damage. The second photo goes into the deeper layer of the skin, the dermis. This photo shows the indicators of sun damage that will eventually lead to more wrinkles and brown spots.

What kind of skin condition is shown through the Visia Skin Analysis?

The Visia Skin Analysis examines the skin for eight different categories:

    • Conditions visible to the naked eye: visible spots, wrinkles, texture, pores;
    • Conditions not visible to the naked eye: UV spots, brown spots, red areas, porphyrins

    Visia-skin-analysis-results

The results from a Visia Skin Analysis

What are the benefits of doing a Visia Skin Analysis?

Visia Skin Analysis is a wonderful tool to really decide the condition of the skin, not just on the surface, but also in the deeper layers. As the analysis will give you exact numbers of spots, wrinkles, pores etc., it is a great tool to measure the improvement of the skin, which might not be visible to the naked eye. Through this tool, our patients will see the exact results of our treatments.

And I can only vouch for Dr. Vongtongsri’s word. When trying the Visia Skin Analysis myself, I am intrigued by the results and observations. Although blessed with few wrinkles, years of sun exposure has resulted in a large number of UV and brown spots currently hidden in my skin’s dermis. Luckily, there is hope for me. Dr. Vongtongsri recommends an IPL laser treatment, which treats sun damaged skin. More about how this procedure is performed, it’s benefits and potential side effects, you will find out next week!

If you would like to know more about Visia Skin Analysis, Oxygen H2O+ or any other skin treatments performed by Genesis Skin Klinik, visit the clinic here. For more information and booking, click here.

Reviews of Ultherapy by Ulthera – Non surgical face lift and tightening for the skin

ultherapy by ultheraWith Ultherapy being one of the buzzwords in the anti aging and beauty world, Novasans sets out to try this fairly new skin treatment, and find out if it can actually do the magic that some physicians claim. To try Ultherapy, Novasans travels to Singapore and the renowned dermatologist Dr. Elias Tam and his clinic EHA Clinic. For one hour, Dr. Tam and his team takes excellent care of our, slightly nervous, guinea pig.

    What is Ultherapy by Ulthera?

Ultherapy is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure using focused ultrasound to lift, tighten and firm the skin on the face and the neck. Through only one treatment, your body’s own regenerative process of building new collagen, will lift and tighten the skin.

How long time does the Ultherapy procedure take?

The actual Ultherapy procedure takes about 30-40 minutes, however before, the physician will usually give the treatment area a thorough cleansing followed by topic numbing cream. After the Ultherapy treatment is done, the patient can go straight back to work or enjoy every day life.

How is the Ultherapy treatment performed?

Dr. Tam directs a small ultrasound applicator directly to the skin in two different sojourns. During the first, he targets the ultrasound energy to be directed three millimeters into the skin, during the second, the ultrasound energy is directed about 1.5 millimeters into the soft tissue of the skin. The depth of the energy depends on the patient’s own skin.

Through an unprecedented precision of treating several layers of the skin at the exact depth, Ultherapy affords the physician to be in complete control of the treatment, and obtain the best results. The precision is extremely important, as the depth of the skin tissue differs in areas of the face, and to make sure not to hit the facial bones with the ultrasound energy, the Ulthera device has a big screen where the doctor can view the exact depth of the patient’s skin.

The number of shots needed for a treatment varies from patient to patient, but on average, 200-400 small ultrasound injections are sufficient for most patients. When we tried Ultherapy, about 300 energy beams were used for one treatment on the whole face and neck.

Does Ultherapy by Ulthera Hurt? Is Ultherapy painful?

While the level or pain varies from patient to patient, you will definitely feel the procedure. Ultherapy is not completely pain free, but in comparison to Fractional Radiofrequency, this is much less painful. When the energy is being delivered into your skin, you will most likely feel a burning, tingling sensation. Our test person resembles it with feeling like small needle stings into the deeper layers of the skin. Dr. Elias Tam is also very careful, and when the patient feels any discomfort, he loweres the intensity of the energy, leaving the patient at much more ease. The discomfort goes away instantly, and although not enjoying the actual treatment, this was promptly forgotten when seeing the instant results.  “Just like a mother will forget all about the labor pains when she holds her little baby in her arms, I completely forgot any discomfort when seeing my face in the mirror straight after”, our test person says and laughs.

    Ultherapy vs. Radiofrequency

While radiofrequency is said to deliver similar results to Ultherapy, radiofrequency will leave the patient with minimal punctuations all over the treatment area. Although the small scars wear off within a few days, the intended damage on the skin (stimulating collagen growth) is visible through Radiofrequency. When doing an Ultherapy treatment, no one will be able to notice that you had the treatment done. Ultherapy is therefore, rightfully, called a “lunch treatment”, where you can go straight back to work without any discomfort. For the Novasans test person, Ultherapy was therefore a better overall experience.

    Results from Ultherapy by Ulthera

The results of Ultherapy are amazingly instant. When looking in the mirror after half the face is done, the test person could see an apparent difference. “The treated part of my face looks more plush and plump, and the fine line going from my nose wings down to the outer tip of my lips are much less prominent now. For me, there was a huge difference between the treated and non-treated area.” When checking back with the patient one week later we ask how the recovery has gone, and if the results have lasted. “The plump look that I had when walking out of the treatment room only lasted for a few days. After that, I could again see some of my fine lines. Although not as visible as before the Ultherapy treatment, I hope that they will continue to decrease within the coming months”. Since it takes time for the regenerative process, the best results with Ultherapy are usually seen about 3 months after the treatment.

Visible effects after an Ultherapy treatment include lifting and toning of loose skin, a reduced skin laxity on the eyelid, thicker skin, brow elevation and a more even skin tone.

    Benefits of Ultherapy by Ulthera

The apparent benefits from Ultherapy are a brighter complexity, a more even skin tone, a smother skin texture, reduced pore size, smoother and tighter skin, reduction of lines between the nose and the corner of the mouth as well as from the corner of the mouth and downwards.

Side Effects of Ultehrapy by Ulthera

There are no apparent side effects from Ultherapy. Some patients might experience a bit of bruising or redness, but our test person did not experience any of this, and was immediately happy and satisfied with the results.

    Ultherapy Treatment Areas

Ulherapy is best suited for the face and the neck.

    Ultherapy Costs

In comparison to doing a full-face lift, the Ultherapy treatment is very affordable. Ultherapy by Ulthera usually starts on the $1,000 and up, depending on what areas of the face are being treated. A full face and brow lift using Ultherapy by Ulthera costs on average $3,500 in the US. If you receive the treatment abroad, you can get Ultherapy for a much cheaper price. For more information on Ultherapy prices abroad, Dr. Elias Tam and his practice, and recommendations for dermatologists and skin clinics performing the procedure, contact Novasans on info@novasans.com.

Sclerotherapy and Cosmetic Surgery in the Philippines, Interview with Dr. John Cenica at Jancen

Dr. John Cenica at Jancen Cosmetic Surgery Clinic in the Philippines

Dr. John Cenica at Jancen Cosmetic Surgery Clinic in the Philippines

It would not be a bold statement claiming that Dr. John Cenica is one of the most colorful and esteemed aesthetic surgeons in the Philippines. Not only does he appear in his live TV show “What’s Up Doc” every Saturday (10-11 am on Channel 8 on Destiny Cable and Channel 1 on G Satellite), he is also the President of the Philippine Academy of Aesthetic Surgery, a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and the International Society of Aesthetic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Cenica’s five cosmetic surgery clinics in the Philippines

As if this wasn’t enough, he also runs five cosmetic surgeries around the Philippines, located in Quezon City, Laguna, Pampanga and Manila.

When meeting this hard-working man at the fair Aesthetics Asia (held in Singapore 9-11 September 2011), he finds fifteen minutes to sit down with me and tell me about his work and strive to help patients in achieving their dream looks and feel.

What are your specialties within cosmetic treatments?

At Jancen Cosmetic Surgery Skin and Varicose Vein Treatment Center we perform practically everything within aesthetics and plastic surgery. But we also provide preventive health maintenance, and are of course famous for our non-invasive varicose vein treatment sclerotherapy.

How many of your patients come from abroad?

I would say that roughly 80% of all our clients come from overseas, which is quite a lot. International clients come for both surgical and non-surgical treatments, yet the surgeries are the most popular.

What are your most popular treatments and procedures?

Our surgical procedures are still our most popular, however the non-surgical are increasing in popularity by the day. The most popular surgery amongst Filipinos are augmentation rhinoplasty, also called nose job. The second most popular procedure is lipoplasty/liposuction, followed by breast augmentation, also called boob job. The most popular non-surgical treatments are Botolinum Toxin, slimming through radiofrequency, facials such as diamond peels and IPLs and of course sclerotherapy.

At this conference, you gave a speech on Sclerotherapy. How long have you practiced this procedure?

I started in 1995 with sclerotherapy. At the time, there were only one other physician in the Philippines doing this procedure. In order to be able to perform the procedure, I underwent training in Texas, and has ever since given my knowledge through training of other physicians in the Philippines. We are also the only company to distribute varicose vein medicine in the Philippines through our JC laboratory.

What are the benefits of scleroterapy in comparison to invasive varicose vein treatments?

Well, the treatment speaks for itself. It is a non-invasive treatment, which is always safer and less harmful for the patient. It is also a lunch-time treatment, where the patient doesn’t have to file a leave from work in order to go through the procedure. No one will actually even know that you’ve done the treatment and you can walk away immediately.

Are there any disadvantages and side effects to using sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy doesn’t have any reported severe side effects . Some effects from sclerotherapy can be hyperpigmentation or a red treatment area. This usually disappears after a few days. Just like with any treatment substance, the patient might experience an allergy reaction. Apart from that, sclerotherapy is a very safe procedure.

How long time does it take to perform sclerotherapy, and are continued treatments needed?

The procedure only takes 5-10 minutes. For the most optimal result the patient should receive 2-10 treatments for 2-10 weeks in total. The number of treatments depends on the severity and type of the varicose veins.

    How is Sclerotherapy performed?

Sclerotherapy is performed by infiltrating the chemical solution sclerodex into the blood vessel, which produces an inflammatory reaction. This irritates the wall of the blood vessel which forms fibrous tissue inside. After a while the vessel die and disappears, leaving the blood to be rerouted through another blood vessel.

Can you treat all kinds of varicose veins with sclerotherapy?

Mostly, yes. Naturally, you have to assess the patient before starting the treatment. If the patient suffers from Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) you will have to make a vein scanning first.

Lastly, why should any patient choose Jancen Cosmetic Surgery Skin and Varicose Vein Treatment Center for their plastic and aesthetic procedures?

A patient should choose Jancen and my practice, since I am the mentor on these procedures in the Philippines. Not only will they receive the best possible medical and aesthetic treatment. They will also receive a very personalized service. For me it’s important to make the patient feel comfortable and secure. I practice something which I call “vocal anaesthesia”, making the patient feel relaxed by a pleasant and comforting conversation in order for them to forget possible pain and discomfort.
